Story: I remember as a child you told me to watch them, but quietly and carefully, because they can sting. So we edged towards the velvety petals of the flowers together, until we saw them hovering nearby, once insignificant, and suddenly larger than life, the bumblebees, their bodies striped yellow and black looking too heavy to be supported by tiny wings, apparent defiers of gravity. And you would smile and whisper to me, 'Summer's here!' And always, you were right, and even now, all these years later, they are still my sign that it's summertime.
