Story: The old pier seems unassuming now, aware that the lights and colours of its heyday are no more than a distant memory. I remember when I'd run across the beach towards it, certain it was the most exciting place in the world. I sit on the sand and watch the sunset, grateful that no matter what else has changed, the sky can still put on its great evening show. Ahead of me, the sea looks vast and powerful, something else I can rely on. Life may have taken me far away from here, but it has been kind enough to bring me back home. And with the sky and the sea for company, I let my mind drift to a time when my favourite things were ice cream and carousel horses.
