Trouble in these Waters

Original painting: a pirate ship struggles in waters so rough that fish fly from the sea.

Story: Trouble is something you can feel. Like us, you were made to feel it, built to survive. So permit the mere sight of us to serve as your warning, for those who ignore trouble do so at their peril. We are birds of prey, yet we are frightened, watching as fish fly from the sea. You may be pirates, ruthless and intent on doing wrong, but there are things that are mightier than your swords. The storm that is coming will be unlike any we have ever known, unlike any we have weathered. The waves will be higher, the wind more powerful. And our presence here should be enough to tell you that something is very wrong. Lower your red flag, for there is one way, and one way alone, that you will come out of this alive. You must forge an alliance with those sailors whose blood you seek to pour into these waters. Pride tastes bitter when swallowed, but you must abandon all thoughts of plunder and beg for their mercy. You know it as well as we do. This is your only chance, and you must take it. Your trouble is on its way. Already we can feel it in these waters. If you take heed and pay attention, so will you.
