I watch in silence, careful not to speak before my charge turns towards me. Give her a minute to figure it out for herself.

And then she turns and calls out, 'No tether!', her tone accusatory and excited, all in one. And I nod my head. No string in the sky.

This is a place of danger and challenge, and they say that to come here is to take risks unwarranted. So you begin to believe in the illusions of this place, those givers of false comfort and architects of the daring... and you leap.
