Story: I think there's a point on every familiar journey when you know you're nearly there, when you can sense your destination before you can see it. And on this journey, for me, it's the place where I see the lights on the bridge before I turn towards it, where a sense of place envelops me, even though the road still stretches before me with many more miles yet to travel. I always notice the birds as they cross the water overhead. Do they share my signpost? Maybe, sharp-eyed from the air, their signals are meadowland and flowers and butterflies. No matter the answer, I can't help but think the feeling has to be the same, that sweeping comfort of knowing that you're heading homeward.
