Story:
I cross the path that separates modern from ancient in search of respite from the relentlessness of city life and communications with no off-switch. I come here in hopes that under the arches, I will feel a slowing down, as if a place where I imagine life was conducted at a slower pace might be miraculously contagious.
But as I look around, I sense that these walls once teemed with an energy every bit as powerful as the one in the skyscrapers where I live out my daily life, that they were populated by the same cast of characters, technology only an expression of what always existed, expressed in some other way, history a record played on repeat.
So I grant myself permission to let all of it go. And suddenly I notice the clearest night sky I have ever seen, full of stars and planets and possibility, and I am free to dream.
