Ready for the Rest of My Life

Under a starlit midnight-blue sky, a young woman pulls her ship to shore in this original painting.

Story: I pull on the mooring line, and my mind goes back to when I first saw my vessel. It's hard to believe that it's been almost a year since I set off on my journey from this very harbour. I remember that I was shocked at the size of the boat. I hadn't expected it to be so big. And I didn't know if I was strong enough to be both captain and crew. Oh, I'd sailed since I was a child, but still I didn't think I was ready to be out on the high seas all on my own. But it turned out I was more able than I thought. Over this last year, I've weathered storms and navigated treacherous waters; I've found friends in unlikely places, and when others encountered trouble, I've rendered help. I return to this port knowing that I have a fast mind and a heart full of courage. My journey was a test, and I've proved myself. I'm ready for the rest of my life.
