A Full Cup

Painting of a bird approaching her teacup nest with a worm for her chicks.

Story: I saw them picnicking, a hamper from Fortnum & Mason, silver cutlery and those beautiful porcelain cups, the perfect size and decorated with blossoms like those on the trees in springtime. I couldn't believe my luck when they left one behind on the grass in their haste to pack away when the rain came. Carefully, I grasped it in my beak, for it was both heavy (far heavier than a twig and indeed anything I have ever carried before) and fragile. But I managed to lift it and attach it to the branch of my favourite tree by its handle. It is as beautiful a home as I had imagined, both safe and cosy. And now I have had my chicks, it is quite perfect: a full cup, you might say.
