Story: We were leaving, but you turn back, your dark hair swinging round as you move, a shining sweep, and I know you have determined that we will have the last word. I know you are not someone to whom the world can dictate terms, but someone who lays down her own laws. You don't need me in this moment, but I offer my support anyway, standing beside you, ready to speak, but not on your behalf, because you have your own words. In this mood you are lit ultraviolet, as if a purple sheen of a wavelength usually invisible makes you shine in a way you hadn't before. And hunched shoulders square and become defiant, and like ultraviolet, you are protective and dangerous, all in one. Never back down.
