The Unlikely Gardener

Original painting of a woman wearing a full-length red evening gown in a beautiful summer garden.

Story: My little patch of dirt and gravel shouldn't have amounted to much. I was even advised to pave it over, believe it or not, just so it wouldn't make any demands on my time. But I'd always wanted a garden, and I've never been very good at taking advice. I started with two cherry trees. I chose them for the blossoms. And then I added bushes, so the path from my back door would always be lined with green. After that I planted irises and poppies and wallflowers and foxgloves. Because I've always liked irises and poppies and wallflowers and foxgloves. Of course, I couldn't be sure it'd all work out. After all, I'm an unlikely gardener. But hard work has a way of paying off, I think. And the butterflies seem to approve!
