The Offering

In a carnival setting, a young man offers a cupcake to the girl of his dreams.

Story: He presents it carefully, on a china plate, red velvet because that's the colour of her dress, with a cherry on top, because both cupcakes and life in general need a cherry on top from time to time. He offers it humbly, his movements awkward, for he is shy, unsure if such a simple offering might please such a pretty girl; sure that if she declines, however politely, his heart will break into a million pieces. He shouldn't have worried, for she is delighted, and though she does not tell him, it is not the sweet offering that pleases her the most, but the courage he found in making it.

Are they real people in an unreal situation, players in a carnival, where everything is larger than life, perhaps, or unreal people, toys maybe, on a stage created by a young imagination? That part of the story is for you to decide, but their truth remains the same: the smallest offering can break down the tallest barrier, so find your courage and see where it takes you.
