Sweet, Like a Cranberry

A young woman with bright hair that seems to blend into the red backdrop of this painting holds flowers behind her back.

Story: You're not the daughter I expected. I guess I thought you'd be someone like me... But you've been entirely yourself from the very start. Outspoken and passionate to my agreeable and contented, there hasn't been a day when you haven't surprised me. So, come over here with that I-wouldn't-dare bright hair of yours and those I'd-fall-over spike-heeled sandals. Come over here, and bring your quips and that dirty laugh. I can never get enough of them. Come over here, and rail against all that's wrong with the world. I'll listen. Come over here, and be crazy-happy about all that's right. We'll celebrate. I know the world won't always like your sharp edges, but don't ever hold back. You mustn't. You have a sweetness that needs to be summoned. You hide it deep in your heart. But you love better than anyone. Now, come over here with those flowers, my sweet-like-a-cranberry girl, and give your mum a hug.
