Something to Hold

A woman in a red dress (viewed from the back) appears to cradle something precious in her hands in this original painting.

Story: I cup my hands around the air before me, cradling it as I would a cherished object, tangible and real. The thing I've created, this thing I treasure, is something that can't be grasped or even touched, but it exists nonetheless. And although it can't be seen, it is beautiful. When I decided to build it, I knew there'd come a day when I might need something that belonged entirely to me, something that I would care about with a passion, something that would be more important than any pain or hurt. So now, in this moment when I feel as if pieces of me might fall away, I don't fall apart. Because I have something to hold.
