Story: I remember how you looked as you headed over to the car, the rear door open to reveal an interior of plush cream leather. You looked over at me, one backward glance, as if you needed my permission to take the next few steps, this moment between us a watershed. But even the first time I held you in my arms, tiny limbs writhing, ten fingers, ten toes, I knew this night would come: that one day you'd turn around and I'd see a young woman in place of a little girl. So I smiled at you and watched as you took your place in the back seat, carefully folding the layers of your skirt around your legs. Go forth and take with you my blessing. And know I can't wait to see who you'll become.
