Story:
She waits for her friends outside her front door, studiously casual, hands in her pockets, one leg folded over the other, an outfit with just the right amount of colour to draw the eye, and matching lipstick, too.
Her cat looks at her, watchful, but she pays him no attention as she looks out for her friends.
Soon she will catch a glimpse of them walking towards her, and they will head out into the city together for the day, all excited giggling and gossipy whispers, their heads leaning confidentially towards one another as they walk.
You are lucky to glimpse her at this moment, as she rushes pell-mell towards her destination, all self-conscious style and attitude.
Blink, and in her place you will see someone else, no vestige of childhood about her, the child-woman who stood here with the city and adulthood on the doorstep hidden in her memories.
