Story: She chose this gown for the colour, a lush pink distant from the usual blacks and whites that parties command, and the extravagant rose that sits just at her shoulder, decadent and beautiful. She feels jewellery would not work but distract: diamonds too flashy; a thin strand of gold insignificant and pale. And then she sees them on a shelf where she'd left them years before, a vestige of the past that had seemed irrelevant to anything she might wear. Carefully she smooths the fabric, and the silk slips easily over her fingers and unrolls almost the full length of her arms, soft against her skin. And they are as perfect as Nan had predicted: black gloves.
