Story: The party is fading just as I arrive. The sun hides behind the clouds a little more often than before. Darkness falls a little earlier. The wind's breath is a little colder. You aren't expecting me, I know. I come in quietly, through the back door, wearing petals of soft purple. I don't shout out a greeting – grand hellos are for those who favour bright colours. Instead, I wait for you to discover me. Perhaps you'll follow my scent on the breeze. Maybe you'll turn around and I'll catch your eye. I am autumn's rose, and it is my role in this world to be your wonderful surprise.
