Story:
Today's recital will be her last on this stage.
Tomorrow, she will leave the Academy behind for the Company and stages as yet unknown to her, far from the place where ballet first charmed her and became the centre of her life, and far from her two best friends.
She watches them from her perch on the stool, an observer of the comfortable trust between them as one of them offers a hand and shoulder to the other.
Already she aches with missing them, even though they are in the same room.
Theirs was a friendship that grew, day-to-day, as they practised and learned together, celebrating every success and tending every injury, through it all, becoming one another's support.
As she ventures away, she fears she will lose them, that the ground will suddenly give way, with no one there to catch her.
She does not realise that she will carry their friendship with her, wherever life takes her, a suspension bridge connecting them, strong and able to withstand enormous loads.
