Story: From up here in the hot-air balloon, I can understand why you find our place a little bit... out of the ordinary. It didn't start that way, you know. But things rarely start the way they end up. You have to understand that the original house wasn't really big enough for us. I mean, it was, at the very beginning. Back then, it was just the two of us and our dog and our cat, and the little cream-painted house with the pitched roof and the small front garden was a perfect fit. But then life took over. We needed more space. But we liked our house – and we most certainly did not want to move. So we built another house right next door. That's the one that's blue and thin and tall. Then our kids came along, and we built another house, a pink one that was bigger than either of the other two. When we bought the car, building the garage seemed like a sensible thing to do. All the houses are linked by a corridor on the first floor. You can't see it from the outside, though, and each of the houses has its own front door. The best part of all this was that we increased more than our inside space. I guess you could say that our garden grew amd grew and grew. The deer and the squirrels and the rabbits already lived on the land. We adopted the swans, and we added the pond. When the ducks arrived, we painted the zebra crossing and installed the sign – safety first, because when the ducks cross the drive, they take their time! When I look down and do the sums, it all makes sense to me. It may be a bit out of the ordinary, but it adds up to home, you see.
