Story: I couldn't do it. The advice was navy suit (straight skirt), court shoes, lose the hat. I just didn't look like myself. I looked awkward, like a little girl playing pretend. So I went for black suit (flared skirt), high-heeled boots and my signature hat. That woman, I recognised. And she was the one who got the job. Turns out, they wanted someone a little bit quirky. Or perhaps they wanted someone confident. The advice was wrong. Sometimes if you dare to stand out, you end up fitting right in.
