A Different Point of View

Three ballerinas wearing tutus and pointe shoes look at their stage from the audience's perspective. Original painting.

Story: Dress rehearsal, but we're not on the stage. Not yet, anyway. I didn't see the point of coming up here. But now that we're here, I understand. The dancers on either side of me are excited, leaning across me to exchange a flurry of words that I barely hear. I look down silently, taking in the length and breadth of the stage. It is vast, and I am in awe. The preparation that has brought us to this day has been relentless – it's a punishing process that gives life to a new ballet. But standing here gives me perspective. It sharpens my resolve; fills me with anticipation; motivates me to work harder still. I've been a member of so many audiences in this very auditorium, but somehow coming up here at this moment in time has been good for me. It's important, sometimes, to see things from a different point of view.
